Artist Statement
My first genre is a poster. I composed this genre because I wanted to bring in a creative side to my research topic. Also, it is very likely to see a poster or billboard to advertise an event dealing with sports. The poster is informative to all and I wanted to create something that I would pay attention and attend. I have never composed in this genre before. My original thought was the poster and it was the first thing I created because I didn’t want to lose the idea of how I wanted it to look like. At first I thought the process of composing this genre would be difficult but it was not bad at all. I started by looking at samples of posters online, looking at familiar and unfamiliar advertisements. The samples that got my attention the most I saved for inspiration. My next step was finding a program to create a poster and I found out that word would be the best way to go. Using the tools on word, my idea came together easily. In total, it took me about and 1 hour and a half to create the final poster. After reading it over multiple times and fixing any errors, I knew I created the best possible product. This genre is posted on my public Instagram page with the username of lmw16f. The audience that my poster reaches is different than my research paper because it is presented to a bigger audience. For example, audience for my research paper was just my T.A. while the audience for my other genres are students at FSU who are majoring in sport management, female students who want to be in the sport industry and my ENC 2135 classmates who will see the poster.
My second genre is social media, specifically Instagram. I decided to compose in this genre because I am familiar with how it works and have composed in this genre before. I open the Instagram app almost every day and by doing so I automatically know my way around the site. My initial thought was to use my extended knowledge and incorporate it into one of the genres and I am glad I did so. I started with the idea of an Instagram and didn’t change my idea. My process of composing this genre was the most time consuming because I had to do it over multiple days and not all at once. My first step was to create an account separate from my personal account. Once my account was created with the username of Lmw16f, I decided to create my first post the next day. My first post included a snippet of an interview with sports reporter Michelle Beadle. Then a few days later I posted about an internship opportunity with Disney. Recently I posted about another interview with the CEO of Barstool sports and the statistics on the number of female viewers there are regarding the NFL. I believe my post are important in supporting my research paper and provide information to my audience. This genre is posted on my Instagram which is open to the public. This genre reaches a very broad audience of people on the internet. I placed the hashtag of ENC 2135 and those who look it up can view my page. So, my audience can include other ENC2135 students, Instagram users and people interested in the sport industry. My goal of my Instagram is to bring inform those who view on the progress and success women in the industry are making.
My third genre is a PowerPoint. I have composed in this genre many times before and I am familiar with the program. I did not start with the PowerPoint, I switched to it from my original scrapbook idea. The reason for why I switched is because I did not believe that the scrapbook related with my research topic and I would be struggling coming up with things to include. I decided to stop before I got ahead of myself so I wasn’t wasting time. Moving over to a PowerPoint felt like it would be a better way of expressing my ideas to others. When starting to develop ideas about the PowerPoint, I wanted to make sure that it would not be boring. I understand being in an audience watching a mediocre PowerPoint being presented and being bored out my mind. I goal was to have this PowerPoint be fun, informative and interactive. My first slide includes an excerpt from my paper that I believe gives great examples and a quick summary of what my paper is about. Then after I link a YouTube video that features the CEO of Barstool and her answer on achieving such a high recognition and job position. I included this in the PowerPoint to show my audience a successful woman in the field and have Nardini talk and not myself. After I present another fact about ticket sales within the NFL. To support my interactive purpose for the PowerPoint I created a Kahoot with different trivia questions about females in the sport industry. This adds a nice interactive touch with my audience and if they have any questions they can ask me at the end. This genre is posted on my Kahoot account which is public and the power point will be show ton my class, as it will be the genre I will present. The audience that my PowerPoint will reach will be smaller than my other two genres because it will only be presented to the class. My audience will be the students of FSU who are in ENC 2135 with Maddie at eight. The PowerPoint will be open to an audience who like sports, heard of sports, both female and male audience and those who are in my class.
